About Nurturing Nest Children's Academy

Nurturing Nest Children's Academy is a small state licensed children's learning center. We have a mixed age group from ages 6 weeks to 5 years.

We believe it is in children's best interest to have a diverse group with children of different ages and abilities learning together as a community. Younger children learn from older classmates and older children learn to help and appreciate smaller classmates.

We are a member of Child Care Resource and Referral of Southeast Missouri, a resource and referral organization which strives to raise the standards of child care through education and legislation. We are a member of NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), River's Bend AEYC, and Missouri AEYC. We are currently working toward our accreditation with the National Association of Family Child Care.

Curriculum

In accordance with our philosophy that children learn by doing, the children are provided many opportunities for open-ended play and art experiences. Throughout the day they have access to a variety of toys, books, and learning materials.

Daily living provides many opportunities for learning. Serving and pouring for themselves at mealtimes; dressing themselves, sweeping and washing; washing hands; brushing teeth; toilet learning; and helping each other are vital experiences for self esteem and social skills.

Creative play involves art materials, crayons, markers, different types of paint, glue, play dough and many other messy ingredients. Outdoor play is an important part of our daily routine. Our play yard includes a large wooden play structure for climbing, sliding, and swinging. Several smaller climbers, riding toys and other outdoor activities offer lots of large muscle stimulation. The children have daily access to sand, dirt, and water play. We garden in the Spring and Summer months. Several types of bird feeders bring wild songbirds to join our happy play.

We have chosen Mother Goose Time for the 2009/2010 school year.

Mother Goose Time is a professionally developed preschool curriculum that nurtures the whole child and supports the child's social, emotional and intellectual growth. Mother Goose Time offers monthly curriculum kits of theme-based, hands-on activities, art projects and early literacy games. Mother Goose Time curriculum standards align with the standards set forth by the NAEYC and National Head Start Programs.
